Forty one year old Van Nguyen from Vietnam is the current ASEAN champion. Encouraged from a young age to be a flying type trainer like her father, she never quite adopted the fondness for them that he had and only has two on her team. She rose to the top almost by accident. She took the gym challenge to see how she felt about battling while trying to figure out what path she'd like most to take. As it turned out, people began to look up to her, especially young girls, and she appreciated that she could have some impact on them as a trainer, and so pursued her career as a trainer further until she became Champion. She spends much of her free time gardening and book signing at various bookstores throughout the ASEAN area. Her book, which documents her journey, is part education and part biography. She maintains that she only wrote the book because people asked so frequently about her life, that she felt a book was more convenient.

Wibawa Kwok grew up right outside the city-state of Singapore and watched many young ASEAN competitors head into the country to try for their entrance exams. Perhaps it was this experience during his formative years that created an interest in pokemon that has persisted over his sixty six years of life. He is now the first member of ASEAN's Elite Four and an electric type master. As the oldest of ASEAN's current Elite Four line up, he sees himself as a father figure to the younger men of the group and takes his position very seriously with great formality.

Forty seven year old Sunan Metharom, previously a history professor in Thailand, is now the second Elite Four member for ASEAN as well as a dragon type master. A quiet individual, he avoids the press, preferring a good book over an interview. What is on record are his feelings about dragon type pokemon and their relation to history. The relationship is one that has fascinated him for years and is the subject matter of a book he plans to publish later this year.

Fairy type master Dian Hou is the third member of ASEAN's Elite Four. At thirty years old, he's a quiet, reserved man who prefers spending time with his family and training above all else. Little is known about his private life, as he prefers, but it is thought that he's an accomplished gardener and cook as well as a fairy type master.

Samnang Soun is the final member of ASEAN's Elite Four and he's a bucket of unexpectedness. As an ice type master, he has an unusual obsession with speed. He has carefully trained all of his ice type pokemon to be especially fast considering that they are not, by species, considered fast pokemon to begin with. He believes strongly in a strategy of slowing his opponent down and then knocking them off guard with unexpected speed. Soun is thirty eight and originally from Cambodia but now spends most of his time at the Elite Four gym where he practices almost every day.
